Asian Rice Sellers Lower Some of Their Quotes

Thai rice sellers lowered their quotes for 5% broken rice by about $10 per ton to about $600 – $610 per ton today. Viet rice sellers lowered their quotes for 5% broken rice by about $5 per ton to about $425 – $435 per ton. Indian rice sellers lowered their quotes for 25% broken rice by about $5 per ton to about $355 – $365 per ton. Pak rice sellers lowered their quotes for 25% broken rice by about $5 per ton to about $395 – $405 per ton. (more…)

Thai rice sellers increased their quotes for Hommali rice by about $5 per ton to about $1,000 – $1,010 per ton today. Indian rice sellers lowered most of their quotes by about $5 – $10 per ton. Viet and Pak rice sellers kept their quotes unchanged.

Thai rice stocks grow bigger, exports fall

Thai government rice stocks jumped this week as the government continued to buy rice for stockpile, supporting prices even though overseas demand was weak and domestic costs for the grain staple high, exporters said on Wednesday.

Indonesia Lowers 2012 Paddy Rice Production Target to 67.8 Million Tons, Production Still Up From Last Year

Indonesia has lowered its paddy rice production target for 2012 to 67.8 million tons (about 43 million tons, basis milled), down about 4.2 million tons (about 2.64 million tons, basis milled) or nearly 5% from its February forecast of 72.02 million tons (about 45.4 million tons, basis milled). However, the revised output is still about 4% higher than last year’s figures.

China seeks lower duties on imported rice

China has asked the Philippines to lower the tariff on imported rice in exchange for the continued quantitative restriction policy of the World Trade Organization.

“As previously been mentioned, we are willing to adjust the tariff as well as the volume of imported rice that enters the country under the QR system,” Agriculture Assistant Secretary Romeo Recide said in an interview.
